Why SOC 2 Compliance Matters at Alden Systems

At Alden Systems, we don't just manage your utility joint use asset data, we safeguard your trust—and we take that responsibility seriously.

Every day, our clients rely on Alden ONE to manage utility joint use work such as attachment permitting, pole transfers, make-ready work, and more. These day-to-day utility operations are at the core of maintaining and deploying the critical infrastructure that powers, connects, and informs the world.

At Alden's 2025 Conference, CEO John Sciarabba reaffirmed the company’s commitment to cybersecurity, emphasizing its critical role in today's threat landscape. Regarding client data, Sciarabba stated, “We’re keeping it safe and secure.” How? By achieving System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II compliance, a major step forward in our ongoing commitment to keeping your data secure.

What Is SOC 2 Compliance?

Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the SOC 2 framework is widely recognized as one of the most respected standards for securely managing customer data.
SOC 2 Type 2 Compliance

SOC 2 compliance evaluates a company’s controls and processes based on five AICPA-developed Trust Services Criteria:

Core Principles of Data Governance

  1. Security: Protection against unauthorized access
  2. Availability: System accessibility and performance
  3. Processing Integrity: Complete, accurate, and timely processing
  4. Confidentiality: Protection of sensitive information
  5. Privacy: Data handled in accordance with privacy policies

Unlike one-size-fits-all certifications, SOC 2 is tailored to each organization’s systems and services. At Alden Systems, a third party audited not only our security protocols, but also how we manage risk, monitor internal systems, and support our clients with consistency and integrity.

What SOC 2 Compliance Means for Alden ONE Users

Gaining SOC 2 compliance wasn’t a checkbox exercise. This was a strategic, long-term decision aligned with Alden's mission to support the utility joint use community by achieving the highest standards of data security.

As expectations for due diligence rise, especially in critical industries like electric utilities and telecommunications, we’re ensuring our clients never have to wonder whether their data is safe.

“Achieving SOC 2 compliance is more than just meeting a standard. It's a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to protecting our customers' data and maintaining their trust. This certification reflects our dedication to implementing rigorous security practices and ensuring that every line of code and every system we operate prioritizes confidentiality, integrity, and availability.”
— Todd Miranda, Software Architect & Security Officer, Alden Systems

Many of our clients are facing growing pressure to meet internal compliance standards, safeguard asset data, and reduce risk. By achieving SOC 2 compliance, we've taken meaningful steps to support those priorities and reinforce trust at the core of our partnerships.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Maximum data security. Alden ONE is built on secure, audited infrastructure that protects your data from unauthorized access and disruption.
  • Operational reliability. SOC 2 validates that our systems are not only secure, but also designed for performance, availability, and resilience—ensuring your teams have access when and where they need it.
  • Simplified vendor reviews. Many of our clients must complete annual security assessments or procurement reviews. Our SOC 2 report provides third-party verification of our practices, helping you meet your own compliance requirements more easily.
  • A culture of accountability. The process of achieving SOC 2 Type II requires documentation and, more than anything, a continuous improvement mindset. That’s part of the core values we’ve built at Alden.

Doubling Down on Data Security

Achieving SOC 2 Type II is certainly a milestone. But, more importantly, it’s an ongoing commitment—and one we’re dedicated to maintaining.

Alden’s certification requires continuous adherence to these standards. Going forward, we’ll undergo ongoing third-party audits to maintain and improve upon this foundation.

We’ll also continue to invest in:

  • Proactive monitoring and incident response
  • Internal staff training and role-based access controls
  • Data retention, encryption, and privacy enhancements
  • Transparent client communication regarding security

Security isn’t just an IT function. It’s an essential part of the client experience. Our promise is that we’ll always take your trust seriously and remain transparent about how we’re protecting your data.
